Style icon Ralph Lauren’s collection numbers just seventy cars – modest next to the Sultan of Brunei’s 7,000-strong fleet, say – yet the 86-year-old American designer owns classic treasures whose combined value exceeds 600 million dollars.

The most exceptional and most expensive piece among Ralph Lauren’s cars is almost certainly the 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. Built in only four examples, the model’s slender, aerodynamic bodywork allowed a top speed of 123 mph – an outstanding figure for its day. The designer’s garage also holds, among others, a 1955 Jaguar XKD, the 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK built for Count Trossi, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, one of the five McLaren F1 LMs, a 1954 Ferrari 375 Plus and a Ferrari 250 GTO from the series of just 36 cars.

Every jewel in the Lauren garage is, of course, wildly expensive. A Ferrari 375 Plus sold for 18.3 million dollars at Bonhams’ Goodwood sale in 2014, while the rare Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic commands auction prices above 40 million. Even so, the most valuable piece in the fashion emperor’s collection is the Ferrari 250 GTO, worth at least 70 million dollars even among friends.

Lauren also owns more modern performance machines, including two Porsche 918 Spyders and a McLaren P1, a Lamborghini Reventón, Ferrari’s first hybrid — the LaFerrari – and a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
